The Perfect Family Eatery
Food happens to be my favorite part of any family gathering, especially while on vacation. Weeks in advance, I’ll scope out the best eateries to visit, reading reviews and scanning through menus. While choosing a restaurant to dine at when by myself is an easy task, selecting one the entire family will enjoy can be relatively complicated. Numbers alone limit your options. In the ideal world, I want to take my family to a restaurant that is reasonably priced, has enough room for our group, and boasts a menus diverse enough to please everyone…oh yeah, and the food should taste delicious. This last weekend, I came across such a place. Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers fulfills all of the above criteria, and does so with class and charm.
Freddy’s is conveniently located in Washington, off the Green Springs Exit (#10), east of the freeway – just 8 minutes from Coral Springs Resort. From its descriptive name, you can guess what Freddy’s is famous for: burgers and shakes. The menu is perfect for a family, full of typical diner options: burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, ice cream sundaes, etc. While diners are a dime-a-dozen, this one is worth checking out. Freddy’s takes your typical meal of burgers, fries, and a shake to the next level. Freddy’s burgers are not made from your typical “out-of-the-freezer” patty; the patties they use are fresh and mashed thin which creates a seasoned and perfectly cooked burger- crispy sear on the outside and moist on the inside. With each meal comes a generous order of “skinny fries” which look exactly as their name indicates: long, thin, and perfectly salted. I couldn’t stop eating them! Pair all of this with one of their signature concretes or sundaes and you get the full experience. Though you can create your own concrete or sundae, you may want to follow advice from the experts: Freddy’s offers five tried-and-true pairings that will leave you smiling – peanut butter cup with banana and vanilla ice-cream…need I say more? Each meal is cooked to order which adds a freshness not normally found at burger joints.
The ambience: Perfect for families
Freddy’s is true to their classic diner heritage. Guests have the option of sitting at tables or booths surrounded by old black-and-white photos illustrating the history of Freddy and his vision. The facility is very clean and well kept with room to spare – ideal for a large group or family. We also thoroughly enjoyed the staff. They were candid, honest, and very helpful – rare qualities to find in dining servers these days.
What to order: #1 Freddy’s Original Double
When dining, I always like to ask what the most popular dish is. The host taking our order was incredibly helpful and kind, she suggested the #1 “Freddy’s Original Double” – a double cheeseburger with fries and a drink. We had no regrets – the burger was amazing. Take my advice, substitute a concrete for the soda and you have a perfect meal with enough fries to easily share between two people. Order another sandwich and you have a hefty meal for two for about $15.
Do yourself (and your family) a favor and take the stress out of the question: “So, where should we eat tonight?” Go to Freddy’s! Believe me, your family will thank you.
